Nottingham isn’t just the home to one of folklore’s most prestigious heroes (Robin Hood), but a place of great historical importance as one of the UK’s oldest cities. Aside from it being the home to yet another city staple—a local haunt known as Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which stands as one of the longest-surviving pubs in the world—the Nottinghamshire focal point also offers another time capsule. Well, I say time capsule, when really I’m referring to an exhibit of sorts—The Museum of Curiosities—a local museum that offers short tours of its vast collections of movie memorabilia, paranormal keepsakes, ghostly photographs, and even live recordings of ongoing hauntings.
The Museum of Curiosities contains several themed rooms, several of which feature both fan-made and authentic props from iconic movie franchises (SAW, Annabelle, Dead Silence, The Exorcist, and The Nun, to list just a few) and tapestries of best-kept secrets and other behind-the-scenes trivia about each of the respective series. There are also hanging dolls akin to Mexico’s infamous Island of the Dead Dolls, Ouija boards aplenty, and even a witch’s cave where you can, if you’re feeling brave enough, practice an incantation in exchange for good fortune. And don’t sweat it — the witch isn’t scary. Just don’t look into her eyes.
Before You Book
Aside from there being a handful of steps to climb over a three-story tour, The Museum of Curiosities doesn’t have any major environmentally unfriendly curveballs or anything that will prevent you from participating in a self-guided tour. To say that you should wear appropriate clothing wouldn’t be applicable in this case. Just look at Regan MacNeil.
